Police's assistant program ends<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): About 50 house foundations were laid and
\nhundreds of people received free medical treatment during the
\npolice's two-week civic mission which ended yesterday.<\/p>\n
The second Bhakti Bhayangkara Jaya program also saw police and
\nlocals pour 1,000 meters of concrete alleys and renovate public
\ntoilets, houses of worship, local administration offices,
\nsecurity centers and other buildings.<\/p>\n
The program cost about Rp 400 million (US$166,666).<\/p>\n
The Dharmais hospital provided free health care under the
\nprogram, including harelip operations for 20 people, cataract
\nsurgery for nine people and circumcisions for 80 children.<\/p>\n
City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata marked the end of the
\nprogram by checking the improvements in Cakung, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Hamami said the program proved that community spirit and
\npolice and community cooperation was alive and well.<\/p>\n
\"Both the residents and police officers worked shoulder-to-
\nshoulder on the projects,\" Hamami said.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of police joined the program in eight areas in
\nJakarta, Tangerang, Depok and Bekasi.<\/p>\n
