Policemen nabbed after drinking spree<\/p>\n

Seven boozing policemen whose unruly escapades almost caused a
\nriot in Tuminting, Manado, have been thrown into the drunk tank
\nuntil they are disciplined, the North Sulawesi Police say.<\/p>\n
The officers, six of whom who are members of the province's
\nMobile Brigade unit and one who is from the Likupang station,
\nhave been in police custody since Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Provincial police provost and chief of security Adj. Comr. M.
\nSyahrir said on Tuesday the measures taken by his department
\nwould prove to the public the North Sulawesi Police were not
\nabove the law.<\/p>\n
The incident took place on Saturday night when the seven
\npolicemen were called to a noisy family function in Tuminting and
\nwere seen carousing with the residents instead of quieting them
\ndown.<\/p>\n
One of them, who witness said appeared drunk, became unruly
\nand abusive and left the house, shouting obscenities. He then
\nallegedly assaulted a resident in the area who had approached him
\nand tried to calm him down.<\/p>\n
Other residents in the area became angry and demanded the
\nother policemen censure their drunken colleague. Instead the
\nofficers screamed abusive language on them.<\/p>\n
The situation became tense and was not defused until a local
\ncalled the provost who soon arrived at the scene and apprehended
\nthe seven drunks.<\/p>\n
North Sulawesi police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Budhy Wibowo
\nSumantri confirmed the incident and promised to thoroughly
\ninvestigate the case.<\/p>",
