Policeman tortures Banpol member<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A military policeman allegedly tortured a
\ncivilian police assistant (Banpol) member who helped people
\ncrossing Jl. Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
The Banpol man, identified as Muhaimin, was helping stop
\nvehicles passing the street near the City Council building when
\nthe traffic light turned red to allow pedestrians to cross the
\nstreet, but an Isuzu panther van driven by military policeman
\nSecond Sgt. Lukman went through the red light.<\/p>\n
Irritated, Muhaimin knocked on the back of the van with his
\nhand prompting Lukman to stop his car.<\/p>\n
Wearing a uniform and a pistol on his waist, Lukman got out of
\nhis van and came toward Muhaimin. Without any explanation, Lukman
\nslapped Muhaimin twice.<\/p>\n
Muhaimin apologized, but this did not help as Lukman continued
\nto hit him. Muhaimin ran to his office at the City Revenue
\nOffice, next to the council building, but Lukman pursued him.<\/p>\n
Inside the office, Lukman again punched and kicked Muhaimin in
\nthe stomach until the victim passed out in front of other
\nsurprised Banpol members, who looked on, dumbfounded.<\/p>\n
City's Public Order Office chief Firman Hutajulu confirmed the
\nbattery incident, saying that the \"misunderstanding has been
\nsettled between the two parties\".<\/p>\n
\"Don't blow it up. We have settled the misunderstanding,\" the
\nnewly installed Firman told reporters after meeting the military
