Hundreds of mercury bottles were concealed within\ncarpet rolls to deceive officials.<\/p>\n<p>The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya\nPolice successfully exposed a criminal act of trading or mining minerals\nand coal at the Customs Inspection Post and Customs and Excise KPU in\nTanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Tuesday (21\/4\/2026) at 20:00 WIB.<\/p>\n<p>Unit 2 of Subdirectorate 4 for Economic Crimes, along with Tanjung\nPriok Customs officials, secured a container destined for Takasi Kin\nHardware Trading at Room 369, Manila, Philippines. The information\nstemmed from an initial Customs check revealing discrepancies between\nexport documents and the actual contents of the container.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe operation uncovered 760 bottles of silver-coloured liquid,\nlabelled \u2018Mercury Gold 1 Kg\u2019 on the packaging, stored in cardboard tubes\nand inserted into 145 carpet rolls. The perpetrators\u2019 method involved\nhiding them inside the carpet rolls,\u201d stated the Director of Special\nCriminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Victor Dean\nMackbon, during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on\nWednesday (13\/5).<\/p>\n<p>Following investigation, 760 bottles of silver-coloured liquid\nlabelled \u2018Mercury Gold 1 Kg\u2019 were found. The bottles belonged to suspect\nMAL, ordered by foreigner AB residing in Mani Forest, Davao,\nPhilippines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on developments from the suspect, the mercury was obtained\nfrom suspect H, the seller. According to admissions, sales of mercury to\nthe Philippines have occurred since 2021,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>MAL earned revenue of Rp 2.7 million per kilogram for sourcing and\nshipping the mercury ordered by AB. MAL profited Rp 300,000 per bottle\nor kilogram.<\/p>\n<p>Suspect H\u2019s role was selling mercury, with costs of Rp 2,100,000,\nthen selling to MAL for Rp 2,400,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe modus operandi involved sourcing and shipping mercury by storing\nit in cardboard tubes inserted into carpet rolls, then sending it via\ncontainer to Manila, Philippines,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects sold mercury without holding a Special Mining Business\nLicence (IUPK), transport permits, or sales authorisations.
