Police to set up data base on crimes<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City Police will soon develop a crime
\ninformation management system to back up its daily operations and
\nto improve coordination among departments.<\/p>\n
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday
\nthat the new on-line data system was expected to be ready by the
\nend of this year.<\/p>\n
"The operation of the system will be expanded to cover all
\npolice precincts in greater Jakarta soon after it runs at City
\nPolice Headquarters," Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
He said the development of the system was being handled by PT
\nGarda Arta Selaras and PT SIS Indosat.<\/p>\n
In conjunction with the police plan to develop the system,
\npresident of PT Garda Arta, AN Suseto, handed over a Rp 400
\nmillion (US$163,265) donation yesterday to City Police, which was
\nreceived by City Police detectives Chief Col. Gories Mere.<\/p>\n
Both PT Garda Arta and PT SIS Indosat will later cooperate
\nclosely by utilizing the Internet and modem technologies and the
\nlatest developed computer technology.<\/p>\n
"The support from the public in improving police performance
\nis warmly welcomed. There are a lot of things which should be
\ndone, but the main problem has always been the limited
\navailability of funds," he said.<\/p>\n
He said the new computerized system was expected to help
\npolice organize better filing of records and information on
\ncrimes conducted within the City Police's authority.<\/p>\n
The on-line system would make it easier to monitor crime cases
\nhandled by all departments at headquarters, he said.<\/p>\n
"That will create better coordination between departments
\nwhich will result in faster and more accurate handling," he said.
