Police to question Ba'asyir Monday<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Police detectives are set to question Abu Bakar
\nBa'asyir at the National Police Headquarters on Monday after the
\nsuspect was transferred last Saturday from the Soekamto Police
\nHospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Ba'asyir was transferred because his health is has improved
\nand he is stable enough to be questioned,\" the National Police
\ndirector of general crimes, Brig. Gen. Arianto Sutadi, said as
\nquoted by www.detik.com online news provider on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\"Besides, we can save a lot of money by conducting the
\nquestioning here at headquarters. It would be very expensive to
\nquestion him at the hospital,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Ba'asyir, the leader of the Indonesian Mujahidin Council
\n(MMI), has been charged with attempting to assassinate Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri, who was the vice president at the time of the
\nalleged attempt, and with involvement in the Bali bombing. The
\npolice do not as yet have any hard evidence against Ba'asyir.<\/p>\n
Ba'asyir is still refusing to be questioned by the police
\nunless they meet his terms of, among other things, publicly
\napologizing for his forcible arrest and releasing from police
\ndetention.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Medical Emergency Rescue-
\nCommittee (Mer-C), Yose Rizal, said his committee had yet to get
\napproval from the police to check Ba'asyir's health.<\/p>\n
\"Ba'asyir may look just fine physically, but as a person with
\na history of heart problems and his condition is easily affected
\nby even the slightest psychological threat,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"The police are being very arrogant in their actions,
\nincluding transferring him (Ba'asyir) to the detention house.\" --
