Police to probe graft, terror link<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The National Police said on Friday that they would
\ninvestigate the caretaker regent of Poso in Central Sulawesi and
\nfour of his alleged accomplices over corruption and terror
\nattacks.<\/p>\n
The investigation would seek information on whether there was
\na link between corruption and the bomb attacks on the offices of
\nlocal non-governmental organizations campaigning against graft in
\nPoso, explained National Police chief of detectives Comr. Gen.
\nMakbul Padmanegara.<\/p>\n
However, he did not say when the questioning of the caretaker
\nregent, Asikin Suyuti, and his men would start.<\/p>\n
The offices of a number of local NGOs were attacked a couple
\nof months ago. All were investigating Asikin's alleged role in
\nmisuse of aid funds for the rebuilding of displaced persons'
\nhomes in Poso.<\/p>\n
Makbul said the police would submit a request to the Supreme
\nCourt to have the corruption and terrorism cases tried in Jakarta
\na fair trial in the troubled regency of Poso could not be
\nguaranteed following a series of attacks on Christians there. --
