Police to act on Semarang Corruption Watch's report<\/p>\n

Central Java Police have vowed to investigate a report of an
\nalleged fraud involving Rp 67 billion from the province's
\nVillagers Cooperative Unit (Puskud) as revealed by the Semarang
\nCorruption Watch (SCW).<\/p>\n
Adj. Sr. Comr. Ramly EA, spokesman for the Central Jakarta
\nPolice, said in Semarang on Wednesday that the director of the
\ncooperative, Achmad Wahyudi, had yet to respond to the police
\nsummons for questioning.<\/p>\n
Ramly did not reveal if Wahyudi would be questioned as a
\nwitness or a suspect. He said, however, that the police would
\nprobably arrest the suspects without issuing a second summons if
\nthe police had sufficient evidence.<\/p>\n
Coordinator of the Semarang Corruption Watch Subyakto said Rp
\n49 billion was believed to have been swindled from clove farmers'
\nfees collected between 1992 and 1998.<\/p>\n
\"We don't care if the SCW reports are true or not. But the
\npolice are now compiling evidence from reliable sources,\" said
\nRamly.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Subyakto said that the alleged swindle had been
\nreported to the Central Java Prosecutor's Office, the Attorney
\nGeneral's Office in Jakarta and other concerned institutions,
\nincluding the police and governor.<\/p>\n
\"We urge the Attorney General's Office to instruct the Central
\nJava Prosecutor's Office to investigate the alleged swindle soon.
\nWe also want the police to be more proactive.\"<\/p>\n
Subyakto said the officials of the cooperative had deposited
\nthe money into their bank accounts to gain interest before
\ntransferring the funds to the cooperative.<\/p>\n
The money belongs to the farmers of all cooperatives at the
\nvillage level in the province.<\/p>\n
Subyakto also said that the officials of the cooperative had
\nonce distributed bad checks to many cooperatives in villages.<\/p>",
