Police sued for illegal arrest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A lawsuit filed by six suspects in the April 15
\nfoiled robbery attempt and bomb blast in West Jakarta against
\ncity police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman was heard by the
\nSouth Jakarta District Court on Monday.<\/p>\n
The six suspects, represented by lawyer M.H. Sinaga from the
\nAmpera Legal Aid Institute in Bogor, asked the court to order the
\ndefendant to release their husbands.<\/p>\n
\"The six men should be released, since police did not show any
\nwarrants during the arrests,\" Sinaga told the court.<\/p>\n
He said the arrest was also conducted without any preliminary
\nevidence as required by the Criminal Code Procedure.<\/p>\n
The men's wives said they were not asking for compensation and
\njust wanted their husbands to be released as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
\"If the judges decided to give us compensation, we would be
\nhappy enough,\" one of the women said.<\/p>\n
The six plaintiffs, who are still detained at city police
\nheadquarters, are identified as Edi Rochadi, Taufik, Naiman, Edy
\nSyaputra, Solehudin and Samsudin.<\/p>\n
The men were arrested one day after the blast at their houses
\nin Warung Menteng village, Cijeruk district, Bogor.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Sutan Mangun adjourned the trial until Tuesday
\nto hear a response statement from the defendant's lawyer
\nBurhanudin.<\/p>\n
The men are among 21 people arrested by police for their
\nalleged involvement in the crimes. The detainees claim to be
\nmembers of Angkatan Mujahidin Islam Nusantara (AMIN) group. Seven
\nof the detained suspects hail from Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Police have released on bail one of the men, identified as
\nIchwan.<\/p>\n
The blast rocked the three-story Hayam Wuruk Plaza shopping
\ncenter on Jl. Hayam Wuruk, smashing windows of at least four
\nshops in the complex.<\/p>\n
A few minutes later, the robbery occurred at Bank Central
\nAsia's branch on Jl. Keamanan, West Jakarta, not far from the
