Police still checking on officer's shooting<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police are still gathering facts on the shooting
\nof a 21-year-old North Jakarta police officer, Sofjan Sani.<\/p>\n
City Police Chief May. Gen. Hamami Nata said yesterday the
\npolice would take action against suspects, two East Jakarta
\nofficers, if they were found guilty of violating shooting
\nprocedures.<\/p>\n
He did not comment further on Sofjan's family's plan to sue
\nthe police and report to the National Commission on Human Rights
\nif police could not prove their version of why the officer was
\nshot.<\/p>\n
Two officers have been detained for questioning.<\/p>\n
At City Hall, Speaker M.H. Ritonga said he was sure police
\nchiefs would not let the matter go by, citing the detention and
\nHamami's statement that action would be taken.<\/p>\n
"Do not be suspicious, investigations are on-going," Ritonga
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The father of the deceased earlier said the family rejected
\nallegations that Sofjan was an extorter. Later Hamami raised the
\npossibility that Sofjan might be a bogus officer, which the
