Police start investigating maid rape case<\/p>\n

Jakarta Police have started investigating rape and sexual
\nharassment reports involving Singaporean Mohammad Malcom, aka Max
\nDon, the husband of popular singer Imaniar.<\/p>\n
City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said that officers
\nwere examining evidence and statements by victims and witnesses
\nbefore questioning Max Don.<\/p>\n
\"We will summon him after we have examined all the evidence.
\nWe still need several more witnesses,\" Tjiptono said.<\/p>\n
Several media reported last week that Don had allegedly raped
\nhis maid several times since December last year.<\/p>\n
Imaniar's niece Any also reported Max Don to the police last
\nweek for sexual harassment.<\/p>\n
Imaniar's lawyer Muchlis Amin said that his client had an
\naudio tape proving the sexual harassment allegation.<\/p>\n
Don, accompanied by his lawyer Ruhut Sitompul, told a press
\nconference on Wednesday that he had never sexually harassed Any
\nand that it was just a misunderstanding.<\/p>\n
Don said he had visited Any's family to explain what had
\nhappened.<\/p>\n
\"That's why I am very surprised that she reported me to the
\npolice,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Don, however, claimed that he had consensual sex with his
\nmaid.<\/p>\n
He said he had told Imaniar about his relationship with the
\nmaid and his wife had forgiven him.<\/p>\n
Muchlis said that since quitting her job as Don's maid, they
\ncould not trace the alleged rape victim's whereabouts.<\/p>\n
Imaniar refused to comment on the case.<\/p>\n
Tjiptono said the police would summon every witness and victim
\nin order to get the case to trial.<\/p>\n
\"We can't use the tape as evidence in court. We have to
\nquestion every witness and victim in order to build a strong
\ncase,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Don was arrested in 2001 and charged with assaulting a maid.<\/p>\n
He was subsequently acquitted by the court.<\/p>\n
In the same year, he was arrested for assaulting three
\nemployees of a restaurant in North Jakarta. However, the case was
\nnot followed up by the police.<\/p>",
