        "content": "<p>Police seize assets of Bank Arta suspect<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police have seized assets of Kim Johanes Mulia,<br>\na suspect in Bank Arta Prima's Rp 1.2 trillion promissory notes<br>\nscandal.<\/p>\n<p>The chief of the city police detectives, Col. Gories Mere,<br>\nsaid Friday police had seized Kim's assets which were worth about<br>\nRp 172.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\"As much as Rp 170 billion was in the form of commercial<br>\npapers, while the remaining Rp 2.5 billion was in two local<br>\nbanks,\" Gories said.<\/p>\n<p>Police have blocked the two accounts. Gories refused to say<br>\nwhich banks the accounts were from.<\/p>\n<p>Kim and five other businessmen were arrested for their alleged<br>\ninvolvement in the Rp 1.2 trillion scam, comprising Rp 324<br>\nbillion in commercial papers underwritten by Bank Arta Prima and<br>\nRp 700 billion in bad loans.<\/p>\n<p>Kim was the owner of PT Jagata Primabumi, the company which<br>\ntook over Bank Arta Prima from PT Gunung Agung and Group in July<br>\n1995.<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer for Gunung Agung, Denny Kailimang, said his client<br>\nwould sue Jagata because it acquired Arta Prima without meeting<br>\nagreed obligations on taking over Gunung Agung's debts.<\/p>\n<p>Jagata Primabumi is said to have converted commercial papers<br>\nworth Rp 107 billion into Bank Arta Prima capital to artificially<br>\nincrease its value from Rp 100 billion to Rp 207 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Jagata Primabumi then sold Bank Arta Prima to Bank Artha<br>\nGraha, which reported the scam to police.<\/p>\n<p>Gunung Agung's former main shareholder and current advisor,<br>\nMade Oka Masagung, was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The other four suspects are the bank's former president<br>\nChaidil Aini, former director Husni Ali Thaqil, and former<br>\ncommissioners Hari Suhalim and Marul Maulana.<\/p>\n<p>Made and Kim have been prohibited from leaving the country<br>\nsince May 7.<\/p>\n<p>Gories said investigations were continuing into other assets<br>\nbelonging to Kim here and overseas.<\/p>\n<p>He said police had not yet seized Made's assets.<\/p>\n<p>So far 17 witnesses have been questioned.<\/p>\n<p>\"None of the witnesses were from Bank Indonesia (the central<br>\nbank),\" he said.
