Police seek to probe regent<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The National Police said on Tuesday they would seek
\npermission from the President to question Central Java's
\nTemanggung Regent Totok Ary Prabowo in a Rp 12.7 billion (US$1.4
\nmillion) corruption case.<\/p>\n
National Police chief of detectives Comr. Gen. Suyitno Landung
\nsaid in Jakarta that his office had received a report from
\nCentral Java Police asking it to draft a letter of request to
\nPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.<\/p>\n
However, before delivering the request, the National Police
\nalong with the Central Java Police would examine the local
\nTemanggung Police's case to make sure their investigation was
\nvalid, he said.<\/p>\n
\"Central Java Police have submitted the letter of request (to
\nus) two days ago and today (Tuesday) we ordered our director of
\nthe fraud squad to work together with the Central Java Police,\"
\nSuyitno said.<\/p>\n
He expected the examination would be finished by this week. If
\nso, then the National Police would begin drafting the
\ninvestigation letter, he said.<\/p>\n
Suyitno said the letter would include a request to confiscate
\nthe assets of the regent, who is being investigated for
\nembezzling Rp 12.7 billion of last year's election funds. -- JP<\/p>",
