Police release four suspects reportedly linked to terrorism<\/p>\n

Police released on Friday another four people reportedly linked
\nto terrorist activities, deeming their accounts during
\ninterrogation thus far sufficient.<\/p>\n
Previously the police released four of 17 suspects arrested
\nbetween August and September for their alleged involvement in
\nplans to launch terror attacks in the capital.<\/p>\n
Their status, however, remains unchanged.<\/p>\n
Those released on Friday were Suradi, alias Abu Utsman, alias
\nAbu Zaid; Ikhsan Miarso; Bambang Tutuko alias Abu Umar; and
\nSamian, alias Zaid, alias Abdullah. The four released previously
\nwere Wagino, Sunarno, Muhaimin Yahya and Solihin, alias Soleh.<\/p>\n
"Their (release) papers were signed this morning," National
\nPolice spokesman Insp. Gen. Basyir Barmawi said at National
\nPolice Headquarters.<\/p>\n
Suradi was picked up for questioning by the police on Sept. 8
\nin the Central Java city of Surakarta and officially detained on
\nSept. 14. Ikhsan was picked up on Sept. 8 in the neighboring
\nSurakarta town of Sukoharjo and detained since Sept. 14. Police
\nbelieve that Suradi and Ikhsan had harbored Bali bombing
\nsuspects.<\/p>\n
Bambang was picked up on Sept. 14. while Samian was picked up
\non Aug. 17 and officially detained on Aug. 24.<\/p>\n
Police say that investigators have obtained the necessary
\nstatements from the suspects and were therefore releasing them.<\/p>\n
Police arrested the 17 people for alleged involvement in plans
\nto perpetrate bombings in the capital. A top police detective
\nsaid that among the bomb targets were the National Police and
\nJakarta Police headquarters.<\/p>\n
The suspects were arrested in separate places in Jakarta,
\nLampung, Semarang, Surakarta and Karanganyar. The last three were
\narrested in Central Java.<\/p>\n
Police also seized from some of them more than 1,000 rounds of
\nammunition and dozens of kilograms of explosives.<\/p>\n
The arrests, however, have increased public concern, mostly on
\nthe part of Islamic organizations and human rights activists who
\nhave questioned the procedure of the arrests. They claim the
\narrests were against the suspects' basis rights as the police
\nfailed to immediately inform their families of the arrests. They
\nalso claim that many of the arrests were made without sufficient
\nevidence.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, National Police deputy spokesman Sr. Comr. Zainuri
\nLubis said the police may not charge the first four suspects
\nreleased unless investigators could prove their involvement in
\nthe planning of terror attacks.<\/p>\n
"The first four terror suspects released earlier may become
\nwitnesses if police find no clear proof of involvement," Zainuri
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Zainuri said the police were not worried about the possibility
\nof the suspects escaping or becoming involved in criminal
\nactivities because their identities were clear.<\/p>\n
"They have clear and valid identities, homes, families and
\noccupations, which will ensure that they don't repeat their
\nalleged wrongdoings," said Zainuri.<\/p>",
