Police, relatives still in the dark about Beng Seng's murder<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Both the police and relatives of Nyo Beng Seng,
\nthe entertainment businessman who was killed by masked hit men
\nrecently, are still in the dark about the murder.<\/p>\n
Beng Seng's relatives have insisted they know nothing about
\nthe suspected murderers' identities, while police in the
\nPenjaringan subprecinct have said there has been no progress in
\ntheir investigation.<\/p>\n
\"We know nothing about the murderers and don't want to
\nintervene into the ongoing police investigation,\" Adnan, 30, the
\nthird of four of Beng Seng's sons from his first wife told The
\nJakarta Post here yesterday.<\/p>\n
The case is now being handled by the Penjaringan police
\nsubprecinct in North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
A source at the subprecinct said the case is complicated.<\/p>\n
\"We have not yet found a single bit of evidence to incriminate
\nanyone,\" he said.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Post and Kompas at her residence on
\nJl. Mangga Besar, Anita, the deceased's first wife, insisted that
\nher family had not named anyone as a murder suspect.<\/p>\n
Beng Seng, alias Darmansyah Suyadi, 57, died with 12 severe
\nstab wounds at around 2:00 a.m. on April 15. He was killed by a
\ngroup of at least four masked individuals in the yard of his
\nsecond wife's house on Jl. Pluit Kencana Raya 128, Pluit, North
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
Adnan and his mother also expressed their disappointment
\nregarding various stories surrounding Beng Seng's death that have
\nappeared in the news media.<\/p>\n
\"I know nothing about the names of suspects or business
\ncompetitors as described by some newspapers,\" Anita said.<\/p>\n
They both denied having sent a three-page letter to the
\nNational Police Chief, a copy of which was made available to the
\nPost.<\/p>\n
\"We strongly believe there are certain parties who have
\nintentionally sent false stories to the press for their own
\ninterests,\" said Anita.<\/p>\n
The letter, dated April 20, gave three motives for the murder
\nalong with the names of two main suspects. Copies of the letter
\nwere also sent to at least 20 high-ranking officials.<\/p>\n
The letter was written by someone calling himself Adi
\nSuprianto, who claimed to be a relative of Beng Seng.<\/p>\n
It said the murder was plotted by two individuals called Hong
\nLie and A Lay. The two names were mentioned by Beng Seng to his
\nsecond wife when he was rushed to the Atmajaya hospital, where he
\nlater died.<\/p>\n
Adnan said he had never seen the letter and had no idea who
\nwrote it.<\/p>\n
He refused to comment further about Hong Lie or A Lay.<\/p>\n
\"I don't want to intervene in the police investigation,\" he
\nrepeated.<\/p>\n
The writer stated that Hong Lie is an ex-prisoner of the Nusa
\nKambangan Island and has been a gambling operator inside and
\noutside the country.<\/p>\n
None of the individuals mentioned in the letter could be
\nreached for comment.<\/p>\n
Mysterious call<\/p>\n
On Monday, the family received a phone call from a mysterious
\nparty who mentioned several names along with their addresses, and
\naccused them of being conspirators in the murder.<\/p>\n
\"The caller asked us to report it to the police. But, should
\nwe believe a mysterious caller who might endanger our lives?\"
\nAnita asked.<\/p>\n
Besides being widely known as owner of the Irama Tara cassette
\nand video recording firm, Beng Seng also owned of a number of
\nnightclubs, massage parlors and beauty salons in downtown
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
He is also a noted figure among many casinos abroad, such as
\nin Genting Highland, Malaysia, and in Macao.<\/p>\n
Anita, 54, said her late husband had lived with his second
\nwife, Tuti Sulastri, 47, in Pluit for 29 years. She also said
\nthat Beng Seng liked to gamble at illegal gambling dens until the
\nearly morning hours.<\/p>\n
Police believe the murder was plotted by a party from a
\ngambling network in which Beng Seng was involved.<\/p>\n
According to City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Mochammad Hindarto,
