Police question Adrian's lawyer<\/p>\n

Police investigators questioned on Thursday the lawyer of Adrian
\nWaworuntu, a key suspect in the Rp 1.7 trillion (US$185 million)
\nscandal involving state bank BNI 46, for allegedly giving false
\ninformation to police and helping Adrian escape arrest.<\/p>\n
Lawyer Doni Antares Irawan was questioned for eight hours
\nregarding his alleged role in Adrian's escape and the letter from
\na doctor that said Adrian needed a seven-day stay from detention
\nfor medical treatment in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
Doni's lawyer, Amir Karyatin, said his client denied
\naccusations that he was involved in Adrian's escape because he
\nand Adrian had never met.<\/p>\n
"In fact, Doni has always suggested Adrian to surrender
\nhimself to the police. He received the doctor's letter through
\nhis fax machine," he said.<\/p>\n
Doni arrived at the National Police Headquarters at 9 a.m. for
\na marathon questioning.<\/p>\n
The police did not detain Doni as his lawyers ensured their
\nclient would not run away or destroy any evidence.<\/p>\n
"He (Doni) is a respectable lawyer and lecturer. Dozens of
\nother lawyers will vouch for him," Amir told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Police named Doni a suspect on Tuesday on allegations that he
\nhid Adrian and forged documents and they said that questioning
\nhim would set light to Adrian's whereabouts.<\/p>\n
Last week, police declared Adrian a fugitive after he failed
\nto present himself to the police on Oct. 1, when the police had
\nto hand over Adrian to the prosecutor's office. The police chose
\nto issue a second summons instead of searching for him.<\/p>\n
Police said on Wednesday that Adrian might have fled the
\ncountry using a different name because the travel ban on him
\nremains effective. The police dropped no hints about which
\ncountry he was heading for.<\/p>\n
Another key suspect, Maria Pauline Lumowa, had fled the
\ncountry and is reportedly in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
Several media speculated that Adrian is in the United States
\nand transferred the money he swindled to several bank accounts
\noverseas. They said that it was possible that Adrian maintained
\nhis real name and bribed officials at the immigration office.<\/p>\n
National Police detective chief Comr. Gen. Suyitno Landung
\nSudjono said the police would interrogate Adrian's doctor F.
\nWinerungan as a witness after completing Doni's questioning.<\/p>\n
He added that Adrian's doctor could also be named a suspect if
\nhe was proven to make a fake letter on Adrian's illness.<\/p>",
