South Tangerang, CNN Indonesia \u2013 Police have questioned seven\nwitnesses in connection with the chemical warehouse fire at PT Biotek\nSarana Tama\u2019s facility in the Taman Tekno BSD area, Setu Subdistrict,\nSouth Tangerang City. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether\ncriminal elements are involved in the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeven witnesses have been questioned so far,\u201d said South Tangerang\nPolice Chief Sr.\u00a0Comr. Boy Jumalolo on Friday (2\/13).<\/p>\n
He said the witnesses are from parties connected to operations,\nincluding warehouse employees. \u201cFor now, they are from related parties\nhere, including employees. We\u2019ll continue as the investigation is still\nin progress,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police are currently still examining whether the incident contains\nelements of criminal conduct. Several preliminary steps have been taken,\nincluding sample collection at the scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still determining whether there is a criminal element or not.\nBut we have already taken measures including collecting samples and so\nforth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the investigation process, police have also involved the Forensic\nLaboratory Center (Puslabfor) and Inafis teams to assist with technical\nexamination and crime scene processing. Authorities stated that initial\nsteps are focused on security mitigation around the site, including the\nhandling and removal of materials classified as hazardous.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are first mitigating for area security. We will try to relocate\nhazardous materials,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding preliminary findings, police were not yet willing to\ndisclose details and said they are still awaiting further processes,\nincluding coordination with relevant ministries should criminal elements\nbe found.<\/p>\n
For the laboratory testing process, police are targeting results\nwithin a maximum of 14 days. \u201cWe are fast-tracking Puslabfor. Maximum 14\ndays, but we will try to get results as soon as possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The samples being examined come from materials found at the scene.\nDetailed examination results will be communicated further by the\nlaboratory.<\/p>\n
Previously, a fire broke out at the pesticide warehouse belonging to\nPT Biotek Sarana Tama in the Taman Tekno BSD area, Setu Subdistrict,\nSouth Tangerang City, on Monday (2\/9) at approximately 4:25 a.m. local\ntime. During the firefighting process, pesticide liquid was suspected to\nhave been carried by water and flowed into the Jaletreng River. That\nwaterway empties into the Cisadane River, leading to concerns that\ncontamination had spread. Numerous fish were reported dead or\ndisoriented, and some were collected by residents for consumption. Signs\nof contamination were also reported as far as Tangerang City.
