Police promise to resubmit Adiguna case file this week<\/p>\n

Jakarta Police promised on Monday to resubmit the case file
\nof Adiguna Sutowo, the sole suspect in the murder of Yohannes
\nBerchmans "Rudy" Haerudy Natong, in two or three days.<\/p>\n
Police chief Insp. Gen. Firman Gani said he had ordered his
\nofficers to quickly resubmit the case file to demonstrate that
\nthey were serious in handling the case.<\/p>\n
"We can complete all that the prosecutors asked us to do in
\none week. So, we can resubmit the case file this week. We hope
\nthat prosecutors will bring the case to court next week," said
\nFirman on the sidelines of a regional police chiefs' meeting at
\nthe National Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n
He added that the police had gathered enough evidence and
\nwitnesses to charge Adiguna in court.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors returned Adiguna's case file to police last week,
\nasking that inconsistencies be rectified.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Andi Herman said the main weakness of the case file
\nsubmitted by the police was the conflicting information in
\naffidavits by witnesses, who claim that Rudy was shot from a
\ndistance of around one meter in the Hilton hotel's Fluid Bar in
\nCentral Jakarta on Jan. 1, and laboratory tests by Mun'im Idris,
\na forensic expert from the University of Indonesia, suggesting
\nRudy was shot from several meters away.<\/p>\n
The forensic test result opens the possibility of another
\nperson being involved in the shooting.<\/p>\n
Andi said his office had asked the police to resolve the
\ncontradictory evidence by including statements by ballistic
\nexperts either from National Police Headquarters or city police
\nheadquarters in the case file.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors also asked the National Police Headquarters to
\nconfirm whether the gun was licensed, and to reveal the owner of
\nthe gun if it was licensed.<\/p>\n
Firman, however, did not say if the police had established
\nthat the gun allegedly used in the fatal shooting was licensed or
\nwhether Adiguna was its owner.<\/p>\n
Adiguna, a younger brother of Ponco Sutowo, a majority
\nshareholder of the Hilton, has been charged under Article 338 of
\nthe Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years'
\nimprisonment, and Article 1 of Emergency Law No. 12\/1951, which
\ncarries the maximum sentence of death.<\/p>\n
The well-connected businessman, a son of former state-owned
\noil and gas company Pertamina Ibnu Sutowo, has been detained at
\nthe city police headquarters since early January.<\/p>\n
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed the police
\nto investigate the case thoroughly.<\/p>",
