The Indonesian National Police have prepared a range of equipment to\nextinguish forest and land fires (karhutla). The equipment includes\nhelicopters for water bombing operations and specially modified\nmotorcycles to reach difficult areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe from the National Police have placed two helicopter units on\nstandby that can be used for water bombing. The Chief of Police has also\ninstructed that areas that are difficult to reach should be addressed\nthrough modifications. This is an example of a modification to a\ntwo-wheeled vehicle that was originally intended for Bhabinkamtibmas\nofficers,\u201d explained Brigadier General Auliansyah Lubis, Karobinops\nStamaops Polri, during a press conference at National Police\nHeadquarters in South Jakarta on Sunday (23\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Regarding the modified motorcycles, Auliansyah said the modification\nwas a direct instruction from National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit\nPrabowo so that officers could reach locations that are difficult to\naccess.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis does not exist from the factory, so it is the result of\nmodification. This is a direct order from the Chief of Police: \u2018try to\nmodify the vehicles we have so they can reach areas that are difficult\nto access\u2019. This is very useful for our colleagues in the field to\nextinguish fires directly at the centre of the fire points,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Auliansyah explained that his team has also placed heat-resistant\nsuits and fire-fighting drones on standby. \u201cWe have also prepared\nbreathing apparatus, heat-resistant suits, and tactical SAR Karhutla\nvehicles with a capacity of 2,500 litres of water and 250 litres of\nfoam,\u201d said Auliansyah.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also have a modified fire suppression drone. The drone can fly\ncarrying eight extinguishing balls to be fired at fire points. So once a\nfire point is detected, the drone will fire the balls so that the fire\ncan be extinguished immediately,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
The National Police have also placed personnel strength on standby\nnationwide along with portable water pumps to assist with the\nextinguishing process. In total, more than 71,000 personnel have been\ndeployed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe National Police have placed full strength on standby nationally.\nA total of 48,354 Corshabara personnel and 23,360 Korbrimob personnel\nhave been placed on standby and are ready to be deployed at any time.\nThe equipment we have prepared also includes hundreds of portable water\npumps because fires do not only occur near residential areas,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
72 People Named as Suspects<\/p>\n
Previously, 72 people had been named as suspects in forest and land\nfire cases spread across nine regional police jurisdictions. The\nNational Police have since provided assistance to ensure that the\ninvestigation and inquiry processes run optimally.<\/p>\n
Dozens of police reports are spread across the Riau Regional Police,\nWest Kalimantan Regional Police, South Sumatra Regional Police, Jambi\nRegional Police, Central Kalimantan Regional Police, South Kalimantan\nRegional Police, East Kalimantan Regional Police, Aceh Regional Police,\nand North Kalimantan Regional Police.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese nine regional police forces have carried out the investigation\nand inquiry process with a total of 72 individual suspects having been\nnamed. The investigation process was carried out at fire points in the\nfield after hotspots were previously detected,\u201d said Brigadier General\nIrhamni, Dirtipidter Bareskrim Polri, during a press conference at\nNational Police Headquarters on Sunday (23\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
