Padang (ANTARA) - The Padang City Police have stated that the\nperpetrator of a homemade bomb explosion at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN)\n3 Padang, West Sumatra, on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, was not part of a\nterrorist network.<\/p>\n
Head of the Padang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner M\nYasin, said in Padang on Monday that this conclusion was based on the\nexamination conducted by investigators on the perpetrator.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the results of the examination, it was determined that the\nperpetrator was not indicated or affiliated with any terrorist network,\u201d\nYasin said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he stated that the perpetrator, R, a 17-year-old student\nat MAN 3 Padang, was also not a so-called \u2018lone wolf\u2019. The term lone\nwolf refers to an individual who has been exposed to radical ideology\nbut plans and executes an attack alone without being tied to any\ngroup.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, this perpetrator is also not a lone wolf. His action of\nassembling an explosive device was purely driven by curiosity,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
He further clarified that the reason the perpetrator dared to\ndetonate the object in the schoolyard was due to frustration over being\nbullied. To investigators, R admitted that he had been a victim of\nbullying, both verbal and non-verbal, since elementary school up to his\ncurrent grade at MAN.<\/p>\n
Yasin said that the case involving the homemade bomb explosion at MAN\n3 Padang is still under investigation. Police have examined and taken\nstatements from witnesses related to the incident, including school\nofficials and several students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will handle this case professionally and thoroughly, while still\nconsidering all aspects that may have influenced the incident,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The homemade bomb explosion occurred in the yard of MAN 3 Padang on\nTuesday (14\/7), specifically on a terrace beside a classroom. The\nincident resulted in no casualties or significant damage, but the loud\nblast startled and caused panic among the school community.<\/p>\n
From the police investigation, it has so far been revealed that R\nlearned how to make the explosive device from the internet over a period\nof approximately four months.
