        "content": "<p>Police looking into drug syndicate<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): City Police detectives are looking for three<br>\nNigerians believed to be members of a well-organized Jakarta-<br>\nBangkok-Hong Kong heroin trafficking syndicate, an official<br>\nannounced Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The three were placed on the police&apos;s most wanted list<br>\nfollowing the arrest of four alleged local dealers in raids over<br>\nthe weekend, Tambora Police subprecinct chief Maj. Chairul Anwar<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;According to the arrested suspects, the three Nigerians<br>\nstaying in a hotel in Central Jakarta have run their illegal<br>\nbusiness in this country for about six months,&quot; the officer said.<\/p>\n<p>The police, he said, strongly believed that the Nigerians had<br>\nbecome major heroin suppliers in several big cities in the<br>\ncountry.<\/p>\n<p>According to Chairul, the three might have smuggled heroin<br>\ninto the country through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport<br>\nby swallowing the drugs, carefully packed in receptacles such as<br>\ncondoms.<\/p>\n<p>The officer refused to further discuss the operation of the<br>\nthree Nigerians, but said the information from the four alleged<br>\ndealers was more than enough.<\/p>\n<p>The four suspected dealers were arrested in two separate raids<br>\nby Tambora Police on Saturday and Sunday, Chairul said. Two of<br>\nthem are women.<\/p>\n<p>Police confiscated from them Rp 7 million, 800 grams of putaw<br>\n(low-grade heroin) with a street value of about Rp 300 million<br>\nand several grams of heroin kept in a Malboro cigarette box.<\/p>\n<p>They have been identified as widow Tina of Jl. Keselamatan in<br>\nWest Jakarta, married couple Mark and Agnes of Petojo and Apeng<br>\nof Pekojan, all in West Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The city has witnessed the arrests and trials of dozens of<br>\nNigerians for alleged involvement in drug trafficking here over<br>\nthe past two years.<\/p>\n<p>The number of Nigerians in the capital has also increased,<br>\nparticularly in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Staying in cheap hotels, such as those in the Petamburan area,<br>\nmost Nigerians claim they visit Indonesia to purchase tons of<br>\ntextiles for export to their country.
