        "content": "<p>Police look into JI-MILF link<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The National Police are investigating a possible<br>\nconnection between Southeast Asia&apos;s Jamaah Islamiyah (JI)<br>\nterrorist group and the Philippine&apos;s Moro Islamic Liberation<br>\nFront (MILF).<\/p>\n<p>National Police chief Gen. Da&apos;i Bachtiar announced that the<br>\ninvestigation was based on a connection between alleged JI<br>\nmembers and MILF members.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Individually, some members (of both groups) are connected.<br>\nBut we have yet to find the structural connection,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the police revealed that Fathurrahman Al-<br>\nGhozi, an Indonesian currently serving a 12-year prison term for<br>\nthe illegal possession of explosives in the Philippines,<br>\nconfessed that he had been involved in the bombing outside the<br>\nresidence of the Philippine ambassador here in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Ghozi allegedly transported the bombs for the MILF rebels,<br>\nwho are fighting for an independent state.<\/p>\n<p>Some Bali bomb suspects who are thought to be JI members<br>\nreportedly trained on Mindanao island, the Philippines, where<br>\nMILF is based.<\/p>\n<p>JI is said to be the Southeast Asian wing of the al-Qaeda<br>\nterrorist network. Indonesian cleric Abu Bakar Ba&apos;asyir is<br>\nallegedly the spiritual leader of JI. Ba&apos;asyir has been in police<br>\ncustody for five months on treason charges. -- JP<\/p>",
