Police investigate fire that kills mother and son<\/p>\n

Police are investigating the cause of a fire that killed a mother
\nand son on Thursday evening, city police spokesman Sr. Comr.
\nTjiptono said.<\/p>\n
"We have sent officers there to find out what really happened.
\nWe have not named anybody a suspect yet," Tjiptono told The
\nJakarta Post on Friday.<\/p>\n
A mother and son, identified as Sitia, 47, and Firdaus, 26,
\ndied in a blaze that razed their motorcycle repair shop in Pasar
\nManggis, Setia Budi, South Jakarta on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
According to witnesses, the fire started from the victims'
\nworkshop and spread quickly to other shops in the vicinity.<\/p>\n
At least four other shops, including a herbal medicine shop,
\ninstant noodle shop and clothing shop, were destroyed in the
\nfire.<\/p>\n
"Several residents saw the fire start from the workshop and
\nthen spread to other shops," Sudarto, an official at Pasar
\nManggis subdistrict office, was quoted as saying by Kompas Cyber
\nMedia.<\/p>\n
The fire started at 8:30 p.m., and in only about 15 minutes
\nthe fire had razed all the shops linked to the workshop.<\/p>\n
Several minutes later, firefighters arrived, and with the help
\nof local residents they managed to extinguish the fire completely
\nat 9 p.m.<\/p>\n
The two victims were immediately taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo
\nGeneral Hospital in Central Jakarta for an autopsy.<\/p>\n
Another witness, who declined to be identified, said the fire
\ncould have been caused by a short circuit as the circuit was
\noverloaded causing the wires to burn.<\/p>\n
Tjiptono said police would use the information as a starting
\npoint for further investigation.<\/p>\n
"We are open to any possibility as the investigation is still
\nin progress," he said.<\/p>",
