Police, IDI to sign MoU on probes<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Jakarta Police and the Jakarta branch of the
\nIndonesian Doctors Association (IDI) are to sign a memorandum of
\nunderstanding (MoU) containing guidelines for the investigation
\nof malpractice complaints in the future.<\/p>\n
\"Hopefully, the guidelines will speed up police investigations
\ninto malpractice cases,\" city police detectives chief Sr. Comr.
\nMathius Salempang said on Friday.<\/p>\n
The guidelines will enable the police to launch an
\ninvestigation without having to await a decision on the part of
\nthe IDI ethics' committee as to whether the doctors concerned
\nviolated procedures.<\/p>\n
\"In the future, whenever we receive a malpractice complaint,
\nwe will simply send a letter to the IDI and request it to provide
\nus with the names of doctors who can serve as expert witnesses,\"
\nSalempang said.<\/p>\n
More than 20 malpractice cases have been reported to the city
\npolice this year. However, the police have yet to charge any
