Anang Sumpeno, for bombing Wisma Bhayangkari, a <br>\nbuilding located in the compound of the National Police <br>\nHeadquarters in South Jakarta, city police spokesman Sr. Comr. <br>\nPrasetyo said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Prasetyo said Anang, a former member of the National Police <br>\nbomb squad, was arrested in his rented room in Bukit Duri, South <br>\nJakarta, early on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\"So far, it appears that the suspect carried out the bombing <br>\nalone, but we are still investigating,\" Prasetyo told The Jakarta <br>\nPost.<\/p>\n<p>He said Anang was believed to have carried out the crime due <br>\nto bitterness. He was involved in a drug case in 2000 while <br>\nstudying at the Police Science Institute (PTIK). As a result he <br>\ncould not continue his studies and had no position at the police.<br>\nThe suspect then deserted from the police.<\/p>\n<p>Anang constructed a low-explosive bomb and put it in a black <br>\nbag. The bomb, placed near a flower pot in the front yard of <br>\nWisma Bhayangkari, exploded on Feb. 3, destroying the front part <br>\nof the building.<\/p>\n<p>The bomb squad arrived too late at the scene, failing to <br>\ndefuse the bomb, although a police officer had reported it long <br>\nbefore the explosion. No fatalities were reported after the <br>\nexplosion had occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The bombing was seen by some analysts as mocking the police <br>\namid their perceived recent achievement in arresting the suspects <br>\nof the Bali bombing.<\/p>\n<p>\"It (the HQ bombing) had a political motive,\" National Police <br>\nchief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar soon stated after the incident.<\/p>",
