Police headquarters bombing suspect arrested<\/p>\n

The police have arrested a former police officer, identified
\nas Adj. Comr. Anang Sumpeno, for bombing Wisma Bhayangkari, a
\nbuilding located in the compound of the National Police
\nHeadquarters in South Jakarta, city police spokesman Sr. Comr.
\nPrasetyo said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Prasetyo said Anang, a former member of the National Police
\nbomb squad, was arrested in his rented room in Bukit Duri, South
\nJakarta, early on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
\"So far, it appears that the suspect carried out the bombing
\nalone, but we are still investigating,\" Prasetyo told The Jakarta
\nPost.<\/p>\n
He said Anang was believed to have carried out the crime due
\nto bitterness. He was involved in a drug case in 2000 while
\nstudying at the Police Science Institute (PTIK). As a result he
\ncould not continue his studies and had no position at the police.
\nThe suspect then deserted from the police.<\/p>\n
Anang constructed a low-explosive bomb and put it in a black
\nbag. The bomb, placed near a flower pot in the front yard of
\nWisma Bhayangkari, exploded on Feb. 3, destroying the front part
\nof the building.<\/p>\n
The bomb squad arrived too late at the scene, failing to
\ndefuse the bomb, although a police officer had reported it long
\nbefore the explosion. No fatalities were reported after the
\nexplosion had occurred.<\/p>\n
The bombing was seen by some analysts as mocking the police
\namid their perceived recent achievement in arresting the suspects
\nof the Bali bombing.<\/p>\n
\"It (the HQ bombing) had a political motive,\" National Police
\nchief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar soon stated after the incident.<\/p>",
