Police halt PDI-P inquiry<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The National Police have halted an investigation into
\na defamation complaint filed by members of a reform faction in
\nthe Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), citing a lack
\nof evidence.<\/p>\n
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said
\non Tuesday investigators found no evidence to support criminal
\ncharges against the party's leader, former president Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri, or its secretary-general, Pramono Anung Wibowo.<\/p>\n
\"We have spoken with experts on the Criminal Law Procedure
\nCode and in constitutional law to get a clearer view of the case,
\nand they saw no defamation,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>\n
The police suggested the members of the reform faction file a
\ncivil case if they wanted to pursue their complaint.<\/p>\n
A group of PDI-P members accused Megawati and Pramono of
\ndefamation after they were dismissed for challenging the outcome
\nof the party's congress in April, which saw Megawati reelected as
