Police force adapting to challenges: Feisal<\/p>\n
SEMARANG (JP): Armed Forces Chief Gen. Feisal Tanjung said
\nyesterday that the National Police force is working to adapt to
\nchanging circumstances.<\/p>\n
\"I'm encouraged to see that the growing challenges to public
\nsecurity and order have been accompanied by the strong resolve
\nand spirit of the National Police to solve the problems at hand,
\nin spite of shortcomings and various obstacles,\" Feisal said.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks at a ceremony transferring the duties of
\nformer National Police Chief Gen. Banurusman Astrosemitro to Lt.
\nGen. Dibyo Widodo at the Police Academy here.<\/p>\n
Feisal said the rising crime rate in Indonesia has forced the
\npolice to upgrade its ability to anticipate and deal with
\nproblems.<\/p>\n
Gen. Feisal earlier yesterday traveled to Surabaya, where he
\nsaw duty transferring ceremonies at the Surabaya Naval Base and
\nthe Adisucipto Air Base. He later left for Semarang.<\/p>\n
The new Navy Chief of Staff is Vice Admiral Arief Kushariadi,
\nwho takes over from Admiral Tanto Kuswanto. The new Air Force
\nChief of Staff is Vice Marshal Sutria Tubagus, who replaces
\nMarshal Rilo Pambudi.<\/p>\n
All three were sworn in before President Soeharto on Friday.
