Police foil drug smuggling attempt<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Tangerang Police foiled on Thursday night
\na drug smuggling attempt by a suspected member of an
\ninternational drug trafficking syndicate, an official said on
\nFriday.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto said police
\nofficers confiscated two kilograms of shabu-shabu (crystal
\nmetamphetamine) worth hundreds of millions of rupiah from the
\nsuspect. Three passports were also seized.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto identified the
\nsuspect only as Michael, 35, of Taiwan.<\/p>\n
The smuggling attempt was uncovered when Soekarno-Hatta
\nInternational Airport customs officers became suspicious about a
\npackage arriving from Hong Kong. It was addressed to a woman,
\nEva, at an apartment in Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
When X-raying the package, officers found two kilograms of
\nshabu-shabu in the package.<\/p>\n
Both airport police chief Capt. Titik Valentine and Second Lt.
\nKristanto immediately went to Eva's residence to ask about the
\npackage.<\/p>\n
Eva strongly denied that the package belonged to her and told
\nthe two officers that it belonged to Michael, who was staying in
\nAstika Hotel in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"We've questioned Michael, Eva and Neli, one of the suspect's
\nfriends,\" Pudji said.<\/p>\n
He said it was believed the three were involved in drug
\nsmuggling into the country, adding that the operation covers Hong
\nKong, the Philippines and other ASEAN countries. (41\/ivy)<\/p>",
