        "content": "<p>Police focus on riot instigators<\/p>\n<p>KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Police said on Monday there was<br>\nstrong evidence linking eight people, including prominent<br>\nfigures, to the Nov. 30 riot here, Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>\"Four of the eight people are high-ranking officials,\" chief<br>\nof the provincial police, Col. Engkesman Rangkeong Hillep, said<br>\nfollowing a closed-door meeting with members of the National<br>\nCommission on Human Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Commission members Clementino dos Reis Amaral, Benyamin<br>\nMangkoedilaga and Mohammad Salim are in Kupang to collect<br>\nfirsthand information on the Nov. 30 tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>The Kupang incident followed a procession initiated by four<br>\nChristian youth organizations to mourn the Nov. 22 riot in<br>\nKetapang, Jakarta, which claimed at least 14 lives and damaged<br>\nseveral buildings, including churches.<\/p>\n<p>At least 11 mosques and smaller Moslem places of worship were<br>\nset ablaze and more than a dozen houses, a haj dormitory,<br>\ngovernment offices and school buildings were destroyed in the<br>\nKupang riot, causing material losses of nearly Rp 30 billion.<\/p>\n<p>During their visit, the commission members also met with<br>\nMoslem, Christian and Catholic figures.<\/p>\n<p>Hillep said the eight were identified after the interrogation<br>\nof 54 suspects. He said the provocateurs ordered or incited the<br>\nmourners to commit destructive acts.<\/p>\n<p>\"When the time comes we will arrest them.\"<\/p>\n<p>He said dossiers of 14 of the 54 suspects in the looting and<br>\narson during the riot were submitted to the local public<br>\nprosecutor's office for further processing.<\/p>\n<p>\"The rest will be submitted to the public prosecutor's office<br>\nin one to two weeks' time,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added the police also impounded three trucks used in the<br>\nriot.<\/p>",
