Police find nineteen live bombs in Poso and Tojo<\/p>\n

On the last day of their three-day raid on sharp weapons, the
\nmilitary and police force found on Wednesday 19 homemade bombs
\nand five locally assembled rifles at three separate places in
\nPoso and the neighboring regency of Tojo, Central Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
They were discovered in farming areas of Kasiguncu and Toini
\nvillages, Poso Pesisir and West Tojo subdistricts, said Adj. Sr.
\nComr. Agil Assegaf, spokesman for the Poso security operation
\ncalled Sintuwu Maroso III.<\/p>\n
He said all of the bombs and the firearms were being held by
\nthe Poso police as evidence.<\/p>\n
Assegaf said the police and military had been suspicious that
\ncertain people had hidden bombs and firearms in a number of
\nareas.<\/p>\n
Similar raids would continue until the security authorities
\nfound all bombs and firearms in Poso, he said, adding that
\nintelligence officers would collect information from local
\nresidents on the whereabouts of hidden sharp weapons.<\/p>\n
\"We're certain that there are still many bombs and firearms
\nconcealed by civilians. That's the reason why the operation must
\ngo on,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier last month, police found at least four homemade bombs
\nduring raids in the suburban area of Mogenko, Poso.<\/p>\n
Some 2,000 people were killed in two years of sectarian
\nfighting between Muslims and Christians before a peace pact was
\nsigned by warring groups in 2002.<\/p>\n
However, sporadic attacks, in which dozens of local people
\nwere killed, have continued in the religiously divided town.
\n The arrests of a number of suspects have failed to halt the
\nattacks, which have been blamed on mysterious gunmen.<\/p>",
