Police find containers with two sedans inside<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police officers found yesterday a container of
\nmotor vehicles that had been stolen from a terminal in the
\nTanjung Priok port.<\/p>\n
The head of the port police, Lt. Col. Timbul Sianturi, said
\nyesterday that the box contained a Mercedes Benz 500 CL and a
\nPorsche along with three Honda Hurricane motorbikes, Timbul told
\nThe Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
The 40-foot container, shipped from Singapore, has been the
\nfocus of a port authority search since the three men, including
\ntwo excise and customs officials, tried to steal it on Oct. 31.<\/p>\n
The other suspect was reportedly working for the container
\nimporter in Singapore.<\/p>\n
The officer said yesterday that the owner of the container had
\nbeen summoned for questioning about the contents of the
\ncontainer, which were not known until the container was opened
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
Asked if the vehicles had been smuggled into Indonesia, Timbul
\nsaid there was no conclusive evidence. \"Let's wait and see in the
\nnext few days.\"<\/p>\n
The importer, whose identity is being withheld by the police
\nand excise and customs officers, can now be charged for smuggling
\nand tax evasion.<\/p>\n
Import taxes and surcharges of up to 200 percent are imposed
\non cars with a cylinder capacity exceeding 3,000 cubic
\ncentimeters and motorbikes with a cylinder capacity of more than
\n200 cubic centimeters.<\/p>\n
Honda Hurricane motorcycles have a cylinder capacity of more
\nthan 1,000 cc engines.<\/p>\n
The two officials arrested last month were identified only as
\nMT and MF, the other as AK.<\/p>\n
The three arrested used fake documents, which stated that the
\ncontainer held electronic goods, to take the container out of the
