The Sub-Directorate for Traffic Incident Investigation under the
Indonesian Police’s Traffic Directorate (Korlantas) revealed the latest
progress in the investigation at a working meeting with Commission V of
the Indonesian DPR in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday 21 May 2026. They
said the case file is now complete. From the case dossier, they reported
that the taxi driver has been questioned, as well as a witness
identified as Mr Suli Japarudin, the operator of the electric train, and
Mr Udin, the level crossing guard, and Mr Darkim. Finally, they have
also questioned Mr Erlando Kristiawan as a witness for the taxi’s ATPM.
He said the case file is complete and there are charges under five
years’ imprisonment. The case would be heard directly at the Bekasi City
District Court, though he did not elaborate further on the suspects. And
soon, the file has already been sent to prosecutors since the charges
are under five years, so the trial will be conducted directly at the
Bekasi City District Court. He stated that there were two incidents
during the fatal Bekasi Timur train crash, with the two incidents
charged under different provisions. The police also offered condolences
for both the traffic crossing incident and the Bekasi Timur train crash,
noting the existence of two separate incidents. One is the road traffic
crash at the level crossing under Law No. 22 on Road Traffic and
Transportation, and one under the Criminal Code. They are focusing on
the investigation. In the investigation, Korlantas has utilised ETLE
digitisation and has conducted on-site scene processing using TAA
(Traffic Accident Analysis). This was done to search for evidence of the
causes of the traffic accident at the level crossing. Mario explained
that the scene under investigation is related to the taxi being struck
by the train and that the focus is on this incident. He added, as
permitted by the Chairman of Commission V of the DPR, that the
investigation concentrates on Scene 1 where, according to the driver’s
Berita Acara Pemeriksaan (BAP), the incident occurred around 20:40 WIB
on 27 April 2026. They promptly went to the field to process the scene
and held a case conference on 30 April 2026. This timeline can be
reported to the leadership of Commission 5 of the DPR and to all chairs,
deputy chairs and members, that the investigation is being conducted by
Satlantas Polres Metro Bekasi Kota. Korlantas says it is merely
providing assistance and backing up the scene processing for the level
crossing. Mario emphasised that there were two incidents under
investigation and they are not connected. The aim, as in this working
meeting, is to work together to make level crossings safe, secure and
orderly.
",
