Police detains Bustanil Arifin<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The 73-year-old former head of the State Logistics
\nAgency (Bulog), Bustanil Arifin, was detained by police after
\ncompleting a questioning session at the Jakarta Police
\nHeadquarters on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
City police detectives chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Hendarso Danuri
\nconfirmed the detention of one of former president Soeharto's
\nconfidants.<\/p>\n
"Bustanil Arifin is suspected of being implicated in graft in
\nBulog when he assumed the agency's top post in 1990," Bambang
\nsaid as quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
Bambang also said the ailing Bustanil could face up to 20-
\nyears in prison if found guilty later.<\/p>\n
When contacted separately, Bustanil's lawyer Dewi Kania said
\nher client was merely undergoing questioning and was not detained
\nbecause it was obvious that Bustanil was too weak to run away.<\/p>\n
"The questioning has not finished yet. But I don't know if
\npolice will detain him or not. Why should they detain him, he
\nwill not going anywhere with his current health condition," Dewi
\ntold The Jakarta Post. --JP<\/p>",
