        "content": "<p>Police detain Manuputty<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Police detained convicted leader of the Maluku<br>\nSovereignty Front (FKM) Alexander Manuputty upon his arrival on<br>\nMonday from Ambon, his lawyer said.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Paskalis Pieter said that the Jakarta High Court issued<br>\nan arrest warrant for his 55-year-old client as the court was due<br>\nto hear his appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\"He is being detained at National Police headquarters,\" said<br>\nPaskalis.<\/p>\n<p>Manuputty was sentenced to three years in jail by the North<br>\nJakarta District Court in January for plotting a rebellion in the<br>\nMaluku Islands. He did not attend his trial and remained free in<br>\nhis homeland.<\/p>\n<p>He was arrested in Ambon on April 17 last year after inciting<br>\nhis supporters to raise separatist flags, which were banned by<br>\nthe central government.<\/p>\n<p>The group wanted Jakarta to allow a referendum on self-<br>\ndetermination akin to the 1999 UN-organized ballot in East Timor.<br>\n-- JP<\/p>",
