        "content": "<p>Police detain 24 more people for infringing campaign rules<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police took 24 more people for questioning<br>\nyesterday over campaign-rule infringements, taking the number<br>\nunder interrogation to 46.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-four supporters of the Indonesian Democratic Party<br>\n(PDI) were caught handing out roses to people on the streets of<br>\nSouth Jakarta in a &quot;sympathetic campaign&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>A police source said rose distribution did not break the law.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But if distributing flowers causes traffic problems, then it<br>\nshould be stopped,&quot; the officer said.<\/p>\n<p>The other 22 detainees, who were arrested earlier this week,<br>\nwere supporters of either the PDI, the United Development Party<br>\nor Golkar.<\/p>\n<p>The City Police Special Deployment Force&apos;s chief, Col. Arthur<br>\nDamanik, said Wednesday the 22 had violated article 362 of the<br>\nCriminal Code.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They were charged with stealing property,&quot; Arthur said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the 22 had allegedly destroyed or stolen signs, or<br>\nbanners of the parties contesting the May 29 election.<\/p>\n<p>Police have received many complaints of signs and banners<br>\nbeing destroyed, the source said.
