Polda Metro Jaya has announced it will divert a planned student\ndemonstration from the Bundaran HI area to the Patung Kuda monument or\nthe DPR building in Jakarta today, Friday (12\/6).<\/p>\n
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi\nHermanto, stated that his party has coordinated with the Directorate of\nIntelligence to shift the crowd\u2019s gathering point from Bundaran HI. As\nan alternative, he said the masses can continue their action in the\nparliamentary complex area or at Patung Kuda on Jalan Medan Merdeka\nBarat, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe, from the Directorate of Intelligence, have also communicated to\ndivert the point from Bundaran HI to around Patung Kuda or in front of\nthe DPR\/MPR,\u201d Budi said at the parliamentary complex on Friday\n(12\/6).<\/p>\n
Budi stated that the total joint personnel deployed to secure today\u2019s\nprotest amounts to 6,088 officers. They come from various units,\nincluding 500 TNI personnel, 1,000 Mobile Brigade Corps personnel, 200\nBKO from the Sabhara Corps, 3,802 Polda Metro Jaya personnel, and 586\nCentral Jakarta Metro Police personnel.<\/p>\n
Officers will be stationed at several points, such as the Patung Kuda\narea, the DPR\/MPR parliamentary complex, Bundaran HI, and the Cikini\nRaya area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe expression of public aspirations is protected by law. Therefore,\nthe presence of Polri and TNI officers in carrying out this service is\nto ensure that the aspirations conveyed by these students are properly\ndelivered,\u201d Budi said.<\/p>\n
Separately, the Chairman of the UI Faculty of Law Student Executive\nBoard, Anandaku Dimas, confirmed the plan to hold the action at the\nBundaran HI area. He said the estimated turnout from UI alone would\nreach 500, not including masses from other campus student executive\nboards.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt remains the same, at Bundaran HI, and the estimate from UI is\nmore than 500, and later there will be participants from other campuses\nas well,\u201d Dimas said when contacted.<\/p>\n
During the protest, students will bring five demands: first, urging\nthe government to stop wasting the state budget. Second, to lower the\nprices of basic necessities and fuel. Third, to halt the MBG programme\nand the construction of Koperasi Desa Merah Putih. Fourth, to stop\ncivilian militarisation, and fifth, to demand that President Prabowo\nSubianto stop evading responsibility and acknowledge the government\u2019s\nmistakes.<\/p>\n
