        "content": "<p>Police deny noodle poisoning in Bogor<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police speculated yesterday that rotten noodles<br>\ncontributed to the hospitalization of a Bogor family over the<br>\nweekend.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Gen. Koesparmono Irsan, national police chief deputy for<br>\noperational affairs, quoted a local newspaper report that a<br>\nfamily of five living in Ciri Mekar village, Cibinong district,<br>\nBogor, was hospitalized on Monday after eating instant noodles<br>\nthey purchased at a local warung (streetside shop).<\/p>\n<p>\"Police are investigating the case. A preliminary<br>\ninvestigation revealed that the family might have consumed<br>\nnoodles which were past their expiry date. But we haven't ruled<br>\nout the possibility that their illnesses were caused by other<br>\nfactors, since many people consume expired noodles without<br>\ngetting stomach problems,\" Koesparmono told The Jakarta Post and<br>\nKompas.<\/p>\n<p>A local media reported that MT Sihombing and his family<br>\nsuffered stomach upset, vomiting, and spasms several minutes<br>\nafter consuming three packages of noodles Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Koesparmono said he traveled to Bogor yesterday to check with<br>\nlocal police about the case.<\/p>\n<p>The two-star general cited as an example the case of Sri<br>\nPurwati, 29, a resident of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, who was<br>\nsaid to have been poisoned on June 26 after consuming a certain<br>\nbrand of noodles.<\/p>\n<p>\"Medical examinations conducted later, however, revealed she<br>\nhad been suffering from acute gastroentretis for a long time,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Koesparmono said that ever since the news about poisoned<br>\nnoodles, one of the favorite foods among low-income groups, broke<br>\nearly last month in Lampung and South Sumatra, police have<br>\nconducted intensive laboratory examinations of the product.<\/p>\n<p>\"I insist that according to the results of police laboratory<br>\nexaminations, the product meets the standard of the Ministry of<br>\nHealth on healthy food,\" he said.
