        "content": "<p>The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of Polda Metro Jaya has addressed\ninformation circulating virally on social media regarding the imposition\nof traffic fines on riders with bald tyres. The police have confirmed\nthat the narrative is untrue, or a hoax.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of Polda Metro Jaya, Brigadier\nGeneral Pol Komarudin, stressed that the news, which had sparked concern\nand heated discussion among netizens, has no solid factual basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHoax,\u201d said Komarudin when confirming the matter to the media in\nJakarta on Thursday (23\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Previously, a post from the Instagram account <span class=\"citation\" data-cites=\"folkshiif\">@folkshiif<\/span> spread the narrative that\nmotorcyclists with bald tyres could face legal sanctions. The account\ncited Article 278 of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transport\n(UU LLAJ).<\/p>\n<p>The post claimed that vehicles failing to meet technical and\nroadworthiness requirements, including the use of bald tyres, could be\npunished with imprisonment of up to one month or a maximum fine of\nRp250,000. The post triggered a range of negative reactions from members\nof the public who objected to the narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Brigadier General Pol Komarudin urged the public not to be easily\nmisled by information spread by irresponsible parties. He emphasised the\nimportance of verifying any information circulating online with official\npolice sources.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst dismissing the fine rumour, Komarudin still reminded the\npublic that riding safety is the top priority. He believes that,\nfundamentally, the public already understands the applicable rules and\nforms of traffic violations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public surely already knows what traffic violations are. Simply\nobey the rules and stay disciplined on the road, then, God willing, you\nwill be safe and your journey smooth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that riders\u2019 main focus should be on raising awareness and\ncompliance in order to protect their own safety and that of others, not\nmerely on avoiding legal sanctions.<\/p>",
