Gen. Firman Gani over the<br>\npresence of caged endangered animals on police grounds.<\/p>\n<p>\"These mini zoos are in the compound of the driver's license<br>\nadministrative office on Jl. Daan Mogot in West Jakarta, and at<br>\nthe police's Language School in Pisangan Baru Raya, East<br>\nJakarta,\" said LASA executive director Wahyu Kuncoro.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the letter, the head of the police's<br>\nenvironmental division, Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahmad Haydar, said the<br>\npolice would move the animals to the Taman Safari animal park in<br>\nBogor on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are not violating any laws. Keeping protected animals for<br>\npersonal use is a violation ... but all of these animals were<br>\ngiven to us by citizens and were put on display in public places<br>\nfor the general public to enjoy,\" he told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>In its letter, the Animal Advocacy Institution warned that it<br>\nwould file a lawsuit with the Central Jakarta District Court<br>\nunless the police handed over the animals to an appropriate<br>\ngovernment organization within 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>The LASA said the site on Jl. Daan Mogot contained two<br>\ncassowaries, nine deer, more than 10 Papuan kangaroos, two<br>\ncrocodiles, a bear and various protected birds.<\/p>\n<p>At the police language school, the LASA found three peacocks.<\/p>\n<p>Wahyu accused the police of violating Law No. 5\/1990 on<br>\nnatural resources and conservation.<\/p>\n<p>\"The police should set an example for the people by obeying<br>\nthe law,\" he remarked.<\/p>",
