Police chief suspends Col. Adang Rismanto<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Dibyo Widodo has
\nsuspended the once famous Jakarta police officer Col. Adang
\nRismanto for unexplained reasons.<\/p>\n
Adang's latest posting was head of the Chemical and Biological
\nForensic Department of the National Police.<\/p>\n
Not only was Adang, 47, stripped of his position on Thursday
\nbut he now has neither a desk nor an office, although he does
\nretain his status as a policeman and will still be paid, police
\nsources said.<\/p>\n
Dibyo has assigned the head of the Forensic Department, Brig.
\nGen. Untung Haryono, to place Adang at the National Police
\nheadquarters without a job until his retirement comes.<\/p>\n
Under the law, the normal retirement age is 55.<\/p>\n
Also suspended without reasons yesterday were eight middle-
\nranking officers. But they turn 55 this year.<\/p>\n
There has been no official explanation for the suspension of
\nthe police officer holding a Master of Business Administration
\ndegree.<\/p>\n
Officers at the National Police Forensic Laboratory said
\nrecently that Adang has rarely shown up since he was placed in
\nthe forensic department.<\/p>\n
His absence triggered speculation that he had in fact resigned
\nfrom the police force.<\/p>\n
When The Jakarta Post asked about Adang's frequent absence,
\nDibyo replied, \"There are still many people who want to become
\npolice officers.\"<\/p>\n
Adang sprang to prominence when he handled the investigation
\ninto the death of a young businessman at the residence of starlet
\nRia Irawan in South Jakarta in 1994. The crime has still not been
\nsolved.<\/p>\n
Dibyo also announced the replacement of several police
\nofficers in Jakarta, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Nusa Tenggara
\nand Central Java.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Abubakar Nata Prawira
\nwill be promoted colonel and will become the Palembang Police
\nChief in South Sumatra. He will be replaced by Lt. Col. Muhamad
\nIbrahim.<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Rismawan from the Jakarta Police Intelligence and
\nSecurity division will be appointed to replace Ibrahim at the
\nNorth Jakarta police precinct.<\/p>\n
East Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Gories Mere will be
\npromoted secretary of the Jakarta Police Crime Investigation
\nDirectorate, replacing Lt. Col. Edi Darnadi, who has been
\nassigned as deputy chief of the Medan City Police in North
\nSumatra.<\/p>\n
Mere's post will be handed over to Lt. Col. Nanan Sukarna,
\ncurrently coordinator of secretaries for the Jakarta Police
\nchief.<\/p>\n
Depok Police Chief Lt. Col. Herman SS, will be replaced by Lt.
\nCol. Yudhi Susharyanto, head of the Jakarta Police vehicle
\nregistration unit. Herman will be named secretary to the Jakarta
\nPolice Traffic Directorate.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Police Chief Lt. Col. Djoko Satryo will be promoted
\nas deputy commander of the cadet detachment at the Police Academy
\nin Semarang. He will be replaced by Jakarta Police Spokesman Lt.
\nCol. Iman Haryatna. (bsr)<\/p>",
