        "content": "<p>Police chief suspends Col. Adang Rismanto<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Dibyo Widodo has<br>\nsuspended the once famous Jakarta police officer Col. Adang<br>\nRismanto for unexplained reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Adang's latest posting was head of the Chemical and Biological<br>\nForensic Department of the National Police.<\/p>\n<p>Not only was Adang, 47, stripped of his position on Thursday<br>\nbut he now has neither a desk nor an office, although he does<br>\nretain his status as a policeman and will still be paid, police<br>\nsources said.<\/p>\n<p>Dibyo has assigned the head of the Forensic Department, Brig.<br>\nGen. Untung Haryono, to place Adang at the National Police<br>\nheadquarters without a job until his retirement comes.<\/p>\n<p>Under the law, the normal retirement age is 55.<\/p>\n<p>Also suspended without reasons yesterday were eight middle-<br>\nranking officers. But they turn 55 this year.<\/p>\n<p>There has been no official explanation for the suspension of<br>\nthe police officer holding a Master of Business Administration<br>\ndegree.<\/p>\n<p>Officers at the National Police Forensic Laboratory said<br>\nrecently that Adang has rarely shown up since he was placed in<br>\nthe forensic department.<\/p>\n<p>His absence triggered speculation that he had in fact resigned<br>\nfrom the police force.<\/p>\n<p>When The Jakarta Post asked about Adang's frequent absence,<br>\nDibyo replied, \"There are still many people who want to become<br>\npolice officers.\"<\/p>\n<p>Adang sprang to prominence when he handled the investigation<br>\ninto the death of a young businessman at the residence of starlet<br>\nRia Irawan in South Jakarta in 1994. The crime has still not been<br>\nsolved.<\/p>\n<p>Dibyo also announced the replacement of several police<br>\nofficers in Jakarta, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Nusa Tenggara<br>\nand Central Java.<\/p>\n<p>Central Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Abubakar Nata Prawira<br>\nwill be promoted colonel and will become the Palembang Police<br>\nChief in South Sumatra. He will be replaced by Lt. Col. Muhamad<br>\nIbrahim.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Col. Rismawan from the Jakarta Police Intelligence and<br>\nSecurity division will be appointed to replace Ibrahim at the<br>\nNorth Jakarta police precinct.<\/p>\n<p>East Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Gories Mere will be<br>\npromoted secretary of the Jakarta Police Crime Investigation<br>\nDirectorate, replacing Lt. Col. Edi Darnadi, who has been<br>\nassigned as deputy chief of the Medan City Police in North<br>\nSumatra.<\/p>\n<p>Mere's post will be handed over to Lt. Col. Nanan Sukarna,<br>\ncurrently coordinator of secretaries for the Jakarta Police<br>\nchief.<\/p>\n<p>Depok Police Chief Lt. Col. Herman SS, will be replaced by Lt.<br>\nCol. Yudhi Susharyanto, head of the Jakarta Police vehicle<br>\nregistration unit. Herman will be named secretary to the Jakarta<br>\nPolice Traffic Directorate.<\/p>\n<p>Tangerang Police Chief Lt. Col. Djoko Satryo will be promoted<br>\nas deputy commander of the cadet detachment at the Police Academy<br>\nin Semarang. He will be replaced by Jakarta Police Spokesman Lt.<br>\nCol. Iman Haryatna.
