Police blasted over gambling inaction<\/p>\n
BATAM, Riau: The Batam Muslim Young Preachers' Association
\n(IDM) has lashed out at Riau Police for failing to crack down on
\ngambling on the industrial island.<\/p>\n
IDM deputy chairman Iskandar Zulkarnaen said police had failed
\nto follow up on an investigation into gambling in a casino at
\nBatam's Tering Bay Resort.<\/p>\n
Riau Police chief Brig. Gen. Deddy Komaruddin has named Batam
\ntourism office head Buralimar as a key suspect in the case, but
\nthe charges against him were not followed up, Zulkarnaen said.<\/p>\n
He told The Jakarta Post that he had received information that
\nKomaruddin and Barelang Police chief Sr. Comr. Suhartono would be
\nreplaced soon, adding that this could complicate the handling of
\nthe case.<\/p>\n
Batam Mayor Nyat Kadir was also charged with involvement in
\nthe gambling legalization, though the status of the case is
\nunclear.<\/p>",
