Police arrest warden, inmate over drug abuse<\/p>\n

The police arrested a prison guard and an inmate of the Tangerang
\nYouth Penitentiary late on Wednesday for alleged involvement in
\ndrug trafficking inside the prison.<\/p>\n
The penitentiary chief Didin Sudirman confirmed on Thursday
\nthat one of his guards, Hari Marsono, 40, had been arrested.<\/p>\n
\"We have long been suspicious of Marsono's involvement in drug
\ntrafficking inside the prison...but he always denied the
\naccusation under interrogation,\" Didin, who is currently on
\nleave, told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Police detectives arrested Marsono directly in front of the
\nprison gate as he was leaving for home at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n
The police said they had found hundreds of ecstasy pills in
\nhis bag.<\/p>\n
Fellow prison guard Pujiono said that after they had arrested
\nMarsono, the police got in the prison and escorted an inmate,
\nidentified as Syahrial Pakpahan alias Ucok, from the prison to
\nTangerang Police Station. \"None of Syahrial's belongings were
\nseized as police evidence,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to the head of the operation Insp. Tri Taufif,
\nMarsono was a known drug courier.<\/p>\n
He said Marsono had confessed that he had obtained the drugs
\nfrom Syahrial, who had just been transferred from the Cipinang
\npenitentiary.<\/p>\n
Syahrial has served one year of his three-and-half year prison
\nterm for a drug-related crime.<\/p>\n
The police said that a man called Ocoy had confessed to buying
\ndrugs from Syahril.<\/p>\n
Ocoy was arrested on April 7, 2003, in Petamburan area,
\nCentral Jakarta. He was found to be in possession of 115 ecstasy
\npills, 25 grams of shabu shabu (crystal metamphetamine) and one
\ngram of heroin. His trial is being held at the Tangerang District
\nCourt.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Youth Penitentiary is known for its weak control
\nover drug deals involving inmates. The prison has a maximum
\ncapacity of 600, but currently has 1,047 inmates.<\/p>",
