Pesanggrahan Police have arrested NS, 30, the suspect in the assault\nof a female passenger named Berliana aboard a Jaklingko bus on the Lebak\nBulus\u2013Cipulir route. The arrest followed a video of the incident going\nviral on social media.<\/p>\n
Pesanggrahan Police Station Chief, Kompol Seala Syah Alam, said the\nassault occurred on Thursday, 21 May 2026, on Jalan Raya Ulujami Raya in\nSouth Jakarta. The victim sustained blows to the face and was kicked by\nthe suspect.<\/p>\n
\u2018The alleged perpetrator has been secured by us, initials NS, aged\n30. Based on preliminary analyses, the person has not yet been out of\nthe Mental Hospital (RSJ) for a full year because of a history of mental\nillness,\u2019 Seala told reporters on Saturday, 23 May 2026.<\/p>\n
Although the perpetrator has a medical history of mental illness,\nSeala stressed that the legal process would proceed in accordance with\nprocedures. Police are engaging the Social Service and medical teams to\nassess the suspect\u2019s psychological condition objectively.<\/p>\n
\u2018We are cooperating with hospital authorities to conduct clinical\ntests on the perpetrator. Whatever the results, we will handle the case\nin line with the applicable rules or procedures,\u2019 Seala said.<\/p>\n
The victim Berliana recounted that the incident began when the\nsuspect boarded the Jaklingko bus from Bintaro with registration number\nRSG 1779. Initially NS appeared tidy, wearing jewellery, and behaved\nlike a regular passenger as he asked for help tapping his transport\ncard.<\/p>\n
However, the situation rapidly escalated when the bus\u2019s card reader\nmalfunctioned. The suspect immediately became angry and shouted at other\npassengers.<\/p>\n
Berliana tried to de-escalate the situation by explaining that the\ncard machine was malfunctioning. The tension briefly subsided, but\nmatters turned dire when the victim moved to assist another passenger\nintending to alight.<\/p>\n
\u2018Suddenly I was slapped on the left side of my face for no clear\nreason. I was shocked and in disbelief. When I tried to film the\nincident on my phone, he challenged me and slapped me again about four\nto five times, or even kicked,\u2019 Berliana said.<\/p>\n
As a result of the repeated assault, Berliana chose to alight at\nCipulir while trembling and immediately reported to the Pesanggrahan\nPolice Station, also undergoing a medical examination with the Criminal\nInvestigation Unit present.<\/p>\n
Family apologises<\/p>\n
Separately, NS\u2019s parents expressed their deep apologies for their\nson\u2019s violent conduct on public transport.<\/p>\n
