        "content": "<p>Police arrest dozens carrying explosives<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police detectives aided by local people arrested<br>\n53 people in two separate raids on Thursday for possession of<br>\nMolotov cocktails and other explosives.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning, 35 people were arrested by detectives from the<br>\nSouth Jakarta precinct at the Perbanas School of Economics on Jl.<br>\nGenteng Hijau.<\/p>\n<p>The officers confiscated at least 35 Molotov cocktails and 15<br>\nplastic and glass bottles filled with fuel and equipped with<br>\nwicks.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the evening, a group of people on the capital's major<br>\nthoroughfare of Jl. Sudirman in South Jakarta detained 18 men,<br>\nwho claimed they were members of the Indonesian Democratic Party<br>\nof Struggle (PDI Perjuangan).<\/p>\n<p>They were handcuffed after being chased by people in the area<br>\nwho were suspicious of their appearance.<\/p>\n<p>The people captured the 18 suspects and later handed them over<br>\nto the nearby Jakarta Police headquarters, together with the<br>\nMolotov cocktails.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects were taken to the South Jakarta police for<br>\nfurther questioning.<\/p>\n<p>South Jakarta police chief of detectives Capt. Rycko Amelza<br>\nDaniel explained the first arrests were made at Perbanas campus<br>\nfollowing an operation against suspected militant activists which<br>\nlasted over 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\"Police came out with bombs and plastic bottles in their<br>\nhands,\" Rycko said.<\/p>\n<p>\"According to information from our informers, students from<br>\nPadjajaran University in Bandung had been arriving since<br>\nWednesday and had joined with the Perbanas students. Some of them<br>\nhad even managed to kidnap one of our officers.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"The kidnapped officer was 2nd Sgt. Nugroho. He was later<br>\nsafely handed over to the military police for questioning about<br>\nthe matter.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Bandung students were sent back to Bandung at<br>\nabout 11:30 a.m.,\" Rycko said.<\/p>\n<p>The 35 arrested people were believed to have been involved in<br>\nthe kidnapping as well as in the making of the handmade bombs.<br>\n(ylt\/04)<\/p>",
