Police arrest 66 workers after clashes<\/p>\n
MALAYSIA: Malaysian police have arrested 66 people from
\nBangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal and Vietnam after fighting among
\nrival immigrant workers, officials said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
It was the third major brawl in two years involving foreign
\nworkers.<\/p>\n
At least six people were injured in the clashes late on Monday
\nand early on Tuesday at two textile factories in Negeri Sembilan
\nstate, a police official said.<\/p>\n
Witnesses said a fight in Nilai town erupted as Vietnamese
\nworkers pelted Indonesians with stones and bottles. The reason
\nfor the conflict was not immediately clear.<\/p>\n
In the other incident, a clash broke out in Senawang town
\nafter an argument between workers from Nepal and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Malaysia's saw an influx of foreign workers, particularly for
\nlow-paid jobs, during the 1990s when its economy boomed. There
\nare now about two million foreign workers in Malaysia -- or about
\n20 percent of its workforce.<\/p>\n
But there has been slower growth in recent years and
\nauthorities have been cracking down on illegal workers who have
