Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Crimes Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya\nhas revealed why suspects in a human trafficking (TPPO) case diverted\nthe route from T\u00fcrkiye and sent the victims to Libya.<\/p>\n
Director of General Crimes Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior\nCommissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that this was due to the\nsuspects\u2019 strong local networks and the widespread practice of slavery\nthat generates quick cash.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspects were directly connected to shelter networks in Libya;\nas soon as the victims arrived at the location, the deploying agent\nwould immediately receive a cash payment from the local agent as a form\nof transaction,\u201d he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
Iman explained that this transaction system triggered severe\nexploitation of the victims. Employers in Libya regarded the migrant\nworkers as having been fully purchased.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a result, they were forced to work arbitrarily according to the\nemployers\u2019 wishes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In carrying out their scheme, the suspects initially only convinced\nthe victims that they would be employed in T\u00fcrkiye.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, all travel documents were held entirely by the agents, so\nthe victims were unaware that they were in fact flown to and handed over\nto slavery networks in Libya,\u201d said Iman.<\/p>\n
Iman also noted that this cross-border crime involved a\nwell-organised syndicate, including the involvement of Indonesian\nnationals (WNI) residing abroad as agents, as well as local agents in\nLibya.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo dismantle this network down to its roots, the Polda Metro Jaya\ninvestigation team is coordinating with the International Relations\nDivision (Divhubinter) of the National Police and the Indonesian Embassy\nto conduct direct inspections in Libya,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
