Poland offers RI technical expertise<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Visiting Polish Prime Minister Wlodzimierz
\nCimoszewicz and President Soeharto yesterday discussed the
\nprospect of economic cooperation in the field of infrastructure
\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono said here yesterday that
\nPoland, which has expertise in such fields, has specifically
\noffered to help develop ports, power plants and coal mining.<\/p>\n
\"Poland has experience and high technology in coal mining. It
\nhas offered cooperation in this field,\" Moerdiono said.<\/p>\n
\"We also will study cooperation in the field of tourism
\nbecause there is big potential of tourists from Poland,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"Of the more concrete things discussed was Poland's support
\nfor more cooperation in the field of science and technology,\"
\nMoerdiono said.<\/p>\n
\"The two sides of course still have to study the matters
\nfurther, because, as normally takes place in a leaders' meeting,
\n(what's discussed) is more of a political commitment,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"Concrete (programs) still have to be worked out in detail by
\nministers and high officials of both countries,\" Moerdiono said.<\/p>\n
Cimoszewicz arrived on the holiday resort island of Bali on
\nSunday before coming to Jakarta the next day for a three-day
\nvisit. He is scheduled to leave for Thailand later this
\nafternoon.<\/p>\n
Economic matters dominated the 1.5 hour meeting in which the
\ntwo leaders also explained their respective economic policies and
\ndevelopment strategies.<\/p>\n
Bilateral trade between the two countries last year reached
\nover US$100 million.<\/p>\n
Cimoszewicz was only recently appointed as Prime Minister
\nafter a reshuffle of the Polish coalition cabinet in February.<\/p>\n
According to Moerdiono very little political matters were
\ndiscussed. Neither the issue of East Timor integration to
\nIndonesia nor the case of two East Timorese asylum seekers who
\nentered Polish Embassy here on Monday were discussed, he said.<\/p>\n
Soeharto and Cimoszewicz have agreed that mutual visitation,
\nparticularly from the private sector, should be promoted so the
\ntwo sides will better understand the other's commercial
\npotentials.<\/p>\n
Moerdiono said that Cimoszewicz also delivered a letter of
\ninvitation from Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski for
\nSoeharto to visit Poland at a mutually convenient time.(mds)<\/p>",
