PNBK slams Golkar, PDI Perjuangan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Freedom Bull National Party (PNBK) launched
\ndirect attacks against the ruling Indonesia Democratic Party of
\nStruggle (PDI-P) and the opposition Golkar Party on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Announcing the party's election preparations, PNBK party
\nleader Eros Djarot said it would form a coalition with other
\nnationalist parties to block a possible grouping of Golkar and
\nthe PDI-P in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n
\"People will stand behind us. Do not vote for Golkar or the
\nPDI-P,\" Erros said, after showcasing party election materials at
\nits headquarters in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The PNBK, which expects to win about 6 percent of seats in the
\nlegislative election, is likely to form a coalition with the
\nUnited Democratic Nationhood Party (PPDK), the Reform Star Party
\n(PBR) and the New Indonesia Alliance Party (PPIB).<\/p>\n
Former PDI-P party member Erros predicted Golkar and the PDI-P
\nwere likely to lose a significant number of voters due to the
\npresence of several splinter parties.<\/p>\n
The Patriot Pancasila, the PPDK, and Siti Hardiyanti \"Tutut\"
\nRukmana's Concern for the Nation Functional Party (PKPB) would
\nsplinter the Golkar vote, while the PNBK, Rachmawati
\nSoekarnoputri's Pioneer Party and Sukmawati Soekarnoputri's
\nMarhaenisme Indonesia National Party would hurt the PDI-P, he

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Thousands of Indonesian maids in Singapore
\nmight not be able to vote in the elections because they were not
\ngiven time off by their employers, a maid said.<\/p>\n
\"Based on previous experience, it has been difficult for us to
\ntake leave if the day is not a Singapore national holiday,\" said
\nYan, one among the thousands of Indonesian maids living with her
\nemployers in Singapore.<\/p>\n
Singapore Indonesian Embassy spokesman Chalief Akbar said on
\nSunday the embassy had notified Indonesian maids and their
\nemployers of the elections, so the maids could be permitted to
\ntake at least several hours leave to vote.<\/p>\n
Voting for the legislative election will begin on April 5. In
\nSingapore, voting will be held in the Indonesian embassy. The
\nembassy will provide 213 ballot boxes.<\/p>\n
About 70,000 Indonesians live in Singapore, 80 percent who are

Two TNI raiders killed in Aceh<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Two soldiers from the Infantry Battalion 900
\nRaider squad have been killed in a gunfight with Aceh separatists
\nin North Aceh.<\/p>\n
The two were First Pvt. Usman and Second Pvt. Johan Supriadi.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Military's Operations Command in Aceh
\nspokesman, Lt. Col. Asep Sapari, said here on Saturday the two
\nsoldiers were killed on Friday in the subdistrict of Tanah Jambo
\nAye.<\/p>\n
Their bodies had been sent to Java. One soldier, Second Pvt.
\nDerek Hursepeny, was injured in the gunfight and was being
\ntreated in a Lhokseumawe hospital, he said.<\/p>\n
Sapari said government soldiers were continuing to hunt down a
\nnumber of armed rebels in Jambo Aye.<\/p>\n
He said a separatist member had been captured in Pante Tanah,
\nSimpang Ulin. The man, Muhammad Ali Zulkifli, 40, was suspected

Probe into Marriott blast to be completed<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: The investigation into suspected terrorists in the
\nMarriott hotel bombing was almost complete, National Police chief
\nDa'i Bachtiar said here on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\"The police have arrested several terrorist suspects,
\nincluding the latest one, Amran, who have helped put our
\ninvestigations on the right track,\" Da'i said during a elections
\nbriefing at the East Java military command headquarters on
\nSaturday. More arrests would hopefully be made soon, he said.<\/p>\n
The national police's anti-terror unit recently captured
\nMalaysian citizens Amran bin Mansur, alias Andi Saputra, and
\nJafar, known followers of wanted terrorists Dr Azahari and Noor
\nDin Moh Top. The latter two were believed to be responsible for
\nthe Marriott bombing last year. While other suspects had been
\narrested and prosecuted, there were still a significant number
\nwho remained at large, Da'i said.<\/p>\n
Regarding security preparations for the legislative election
\non April 5, Da'i said \"nationally the elections are ready to be
\ncarried out. There are no extraordinary problems to hamper the
\nimplementation of the polls.\"<\/p>\n
\"Although some places in Aceh are still considered prone to
\nsecurity problems, military forces have been stationed there to
\nassure the smooth implementation of the elections,\" he said.<\/p>\n
A total of 20,000 personnel consisting of 8,000 police
\nofficers, 2,000 soldiers and 10,000 civilians have been mobilized
\nfor the event in East Java.<\/p>\n
During the briefing, Da'i was accompanied by State Secretary
\nBambang Kesowo, Home Affairs Minister Hari Sabarno, General
\nElections Commission head Nazaruddin Syamsuddin, General
\nElections Monitoring Committee boss Komarudin Hidayat, and
\nseveral high ranking army officials.

SEMARANG: Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana, the daughter of former
\npresident Soeharto, has demanded the Attorney General's Office
\nhalt its investigation into alleged graft committed by her
\nfather.<\/p>\n
A team of doctors at the office, which was examining the
\nhealth of Soeharto, should to stop its activities because his
\nhealth had already been checked before, Siti Hardiyanti said,
\nwhile visiting farmers and the poor in the Demak regency, Central
