        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the Timor-Leste\nRed Cross (CVTL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on\ncooperation to strengthen organisational capacity and cross-border\nhumanitarian action services between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>PMI General Chairman Jusuf Kalla emphasised the importance of\ncross-border humanitarian solidarity. The Memorandum of Understanding,\nhe said, serves as a framework for both organisations to develop\ncoordination, collaboration, and synergy in accordance with the Red\nCross mandate.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the scope of cooperation encompasses various\nstrategic fields, including disaster and health crisis risk management,\npublic health risk reduction, humanitarian conflict handling, volunteer\nmanagement, blood donor services, first aid, family reunification, water\nand sanitation, as well as humanitarian diplomacy and logistics\nmanagement.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he stated that both parties are committed to building\ninclusive, accountable, and sustainable community resilience in border\nareas, as well as strengthening organisational capacity to face various\nhumanitarian challenges, including the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, CVTL President Madalena Fernandes Melo Hanja Costa Soares\nhighlighted the historical closeness and the importance of joint\ncapacity building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe share a very close border with Indonesia (East Nusa Tenggara).\nOur traditions and cultures also have many similarities, as if there are\nno borders. In the future, there are various humanitarian activities\nthat we need to carry out together, including capacity building which is\nvery important,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, with the thousands of volunteers they have,\ntraining is key to increasing their enthusiasm and readiness.<\/p>\n<p>The Memorandum of Understanding is valid for five years from the date\nof signing and can be extended based on the agreement of both parties.\nIts implementation will be followed up through technical cooperation\nagreements or joint commitments according to the needs of field\nprogrammes.<\/p>",
