Pluit to have mega-mall by end of year<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Megamall Pluit, a new exclusive shopping center
\nbeing built at a cost of about US$100 million in Pluit, North
\nJakarta, is scheduled to open this December.<\/p>\n
Sri-Purwanto, a spokesman for the project, told The Jakarta
\nPost on Saturday that the five-story mall, which covers a total
\narea of 142,000 square meters, will be equipped with various
\nfacilities, including a promenade around a seven-hectare lake,
\njogging tracks, a golf driving range, children's playgrounds, an
\nice-skating rink, a bowling alley, a discotheque and sports and
\nfitness centers.<\/p>\n
Sri-Purwanto said that the megamall project was being carried
\nout by PT Duta Wisata Loka. He said the complex had been designed
\nby Cadiz Design and RDC Architects Pte. of Singapore and that
\nmechanical and engineering consultancy had been provided by Meco
\nSystech Internusa.<\/p>\n
The mall, billed as one of the largest in Southeast Asia,
\nclaims to have sold 85 percent of its total space to both local
\nand international companies.<\/p>\n
\"About 85 percent of Megamall Pluit's space has already been
\nbooked by the companies, which are ready to start opening by the
\nend of this year,\" said Peddy Wongsowidjojo, president of PT Duta
\nWisata Loka.<\/p>\n
Peddy said that the International Department Store of Japan
\nand the Matahari department store chain of Indonesia alone, had
\nbooked, respectively, 17,000 square meters and 15,000 square
\nmeters.<\/p>\n
Other companies interested in occupying the mall, which has a
\nlarge parking lot capable of accommodating 2,500 cars, will offer
\na wide variety of products ranging from jewelry to computers.<\/p>\n
Sri-Purwanto said that the operation of Megamall Pluit was
\nexpected to help spread commercial activities in the city, which
\nare currently concentrated in a number of shopping centers in
\nSouth Jakarta.<\/p>\n
His company's data show that 37.4 percent of Jakarta's
\nshopping facilities are located in South Jakarta, 21.2 percent in
\nWest Jakarta, 17.7 percent in Central Jakarta, 15 percent in East
\nJakarta and only 8.7 percent in North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The operation of Megamall Pluit is expected to raise the
\npercentage of the shopping facilities in North Jakarta to 13
